Why not eat meat?

Hi. I’m Amy and I live in Texas, smack in what I can only describe as the Meat Belt of the United States. A few months ago, an annoying thought crept into my head. “You’re eating an animal corpse,” it said. “That’s kind of gross.”

“Shut it,” I responded. “If God didn’t want us to eat animals, he wouldn’t have made them out of meat!”

Pork sausage, beef tenderloin, turkey sandwiches, and of course big, juicy chicken breasts…they were miiiiinnneeee.

I saw Kathy Freston on Oprah, watched Food Inc. and read an excerpt of Jonathan Safran Foer’s Eating Animals. Finally, I couldn’t in good conscience continue to eat meat. I made the switch to a vegetarian diet in June and stopped eating fish about a month ago. I started a blog today and plan to keep learning about this movement, the benefits and drawbacks, and encourage others to consider eating fewer animals.

Thanks for stopping by!
